PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Authorities have identified the person of interest they are seeking in connection with Saturday’s deadly shooting at Brown University, the Target 12 Investigators have confirmed. The name of the individual has not yet been released by officials. A briefing on the status of the investigation that had been scheduled for 4 p.m. has been postponed until “some point this evening,” according to a spokesperson for Providence police. Multiple sources with direct knowledge told Target 12 the investigation has intensified significantly over the last 24 hours as police received a growing number of tips following the release of videos and photos showing the person of interest. Target 12 reported earlier Thursday that police are now exploring a potential link between the Brown shooting and Monday’s slaying of an MIT professor. FBI officials had earlier downplayed the possibility that the two crimes were connected. Two students were killed and nine others were injured in the shooting Saturday at the Barus and Holley building on campus. As of Thursday afternoon, six of the victims were stable at the hospital, while three have been discharged.
